Food Active is a healthy weight programme delivered by the Health Equalities Group, and commissioned by local authority public health teams, NHS organisations, and PHE teams at both regional and national level. Originating in the North West of England, the programme was initiated in 2012 as a collaborative commitment by the North West Directors of Public Health to consider population level policies to address obesity that add value to local programmes and services. The Food Active brand was successfully launched in late 2013 and year on year, continues to grow in recognition as a reputable and influential organisation working on the healthy weight agenda.
Our current aims are:
- Influence policy to address unhealthy weight at local and national level
- Deliver interventions and campaigns to promote healthier weight, including balanced diet and physically active lifestyles, to populations who suffer the greatest level of health inequalities
- Undertake research and develop strategic partnerships to lobby and advocate on issues pertaining to unhealthy weight and the impact of both the food and built environments
Food Active has been a member of the APPG since July 2019.
