Johnson speaks out about young people’s wellbeing – Helen Clark writes

BORIS JOHNSON SPEAKS OUT: DAILY TELEGRAPH 16th JULY 2019

‘Tackling any sort of decline in young people’s overall well-being will be a key pillar in my programme for government…..

I can also clarify that any government I lead will seek to reduce childhood obesity and increase the amount of physical activities our children are exposed to. The health and wellbeing of the next generation of young people is a top priority for me…..

We have a responsibility to do all we can to facilitate and encourage healthy participation and continual engagement in sport. I am also aware that the mental health of our children …. is intrinsically tied to the positive link between participation and general wellbeing.’

We hope that Mr Johnson will build upon these observations, supported by the Child Mental Health Charter Campaign  and the APPG on A Fit and Healthy Childhood, and will include a new Mental Health Bill,  prioritising the needs of children in his first Queen’s Speech if he becomes Prime Minister.

Reforming the woefully out-dated 1983 Act would indeed be a groundbreaking piece of domestic legislation.

Helen Clark: APPG Lead Author and Spokesperson for the Child Mental Health Charter Campaign.
